Regular CD3: Postponed

Well, here's a true test of my optimism in the last post. We've been postponed for a month because I have a big ol' cyst on the left ovary.

I managed to grow it even on BCPs! This is the 5th or 6th big cyst I've had diagnosed (on either ovary) since TTC a year ago. I don't have POS, it's just a single, big, probably corpus luteum cyst that flares up big and goes away by the next cycle. I know most women have a cyst like this from time to time, it's not unusual. But this could be the missing puzzle piece as to our "unexplained" part.

Anyway, the FE gave us a 3-part choice: 1) proceed with IVF during this cycle with the understanding that there's a small risk that a cyst under stim could result in torsion or other bad complications 2) aspirate the cyst which would cost $$ and a tiny risk 3) wait until next month. Of course he recommended we just wait, saying that everything else looks good, that I have time on my side, plenty of follicles, and my bloodwork is fine. I don't even need to go back on BCPs because that didn't successfully prevent a cyst anyway.

So, I felt let down, OF COURSE! But am already bucking up. The Hubs was pretty relaxed about the whole thing, asking the FE right off if we could "try the regular way" this month. He's so cute.

A months a month, no big deal - and I'm sure there will be other delays, surprises and disappointments along the way. In the meantime, I am going to enjoy this month of beautiful spring. Oh, and perhaps we'll try the pasteurized eggwhites+medicine dropper trick ;) Well I'll be damned... it seems that my optimism is intact!

I may not post for a while (nothing to say on an IVF blog while on hold) but will lurk and be back soon. Hugs and good luck to everyone else out there, I'll be reading you!

I'm so sorry to hear about your cyst. I just went through that myself. Did they check your levels to see if it was functioning or not? That's what they did with mine to determin how to proceed. Do you know how big it was? I'm sure all docs are different, but still. Thinking of you! Keep your head up.

hi Mrs T - well, I think the FE ascertained that because I did not have this cyst 3 1/2 weeks ago when last scanned that it is a brand new one. I am not sure if he can deduce whether or not it's functioning from that info (blood was not tested). it was 2cm which isn't HUGE (I've had way bigger, 4's and even a 6 one time!) but apparently big enough to suggest waiting.

all is well, I am over it and newly excited for next month. One Half, I PROMISE I will be back real soon. not going anywhere ;) see you on your blog!

GAH. Gotta hate those cyst. It is better to just wait and let your body deal with it if possible. I just went through what you are going through now. I am on CD3 after being on BCP's and the cyst is gone!! Why did your RE not have you stay on BCP's? Just curious....

Hey there. I am so sorry that you are delayed. Wishing you a cyst free next cycle! P.S. hope you don't go anywhere for too long we will miss you!

hi Jo -RE didn't keep me on the pill because it didn't keep me from developing a cyst this time, so he thought it was unneccesary. at least this month we can "try" au natural. guess ya never know. 'specially with "unexplained"

hi Soralis - don't worry, i'm not disappearing ;) and thanx for good wishes, means a lot, everybody!

I had a cyst that burst last summer that the ER orginally thought was a torsion and was on the same level of pain as my burst appendix. If a torsion feels anything like that (and probably worse) a month would be worth the wait for me. Hope that everything is clear and raring to go next month!

Glad to see that you're still feeling optimistic about everything. Isn't it always that way - just when we think we have a grasp of what is happening, a curve ball is thrown at us!

Keep the faith. I'm praying for you!

Aw damn! I'm sorry Utrus. You have a great attitude but doesn't it still just suck!

And the egg whites!!! Well, I'll tell you something... I have entertained that idea on numerous occasions, convinced that my CM is part of the problem. My doctor told me not to but guess what? I'm gonna head out to see it I can find pasteurized egg whites next cycle!! I had no idea!

I too admit to entertaining the thought of giving the egg whites a try. I thought my CM was the problem - nope, hubbie's guys don't swim - all the egg white's in the world won't help those boys!

I say give it a shot. Somebody's gotta be one of those urban legands, may as well be you:=)

Being put on hold is no fun at all. I hope you find the distraction you need, and that the cyst will have vanished without a trace by next month.

Hey! Guess what I bought the other day?

Pasteurized Egg Whites.

Yep. I'm pulling out all the stops. Can't say that Frenchie is all that pleased at the prospect but oh well. He knows better than to cross me when it comes to fertility stuff. :)

Ugh - sorry about the delay. Frustrating but it sounds like you're handling it well.
And don't forget to give us the details if you try the eggwhite business! ;)

No eggwhite for me either ~ Yet! Probable ovualtion will be around the 20th so will start around the 18th I guess. Can't believe I'm gonna do this. I have a friend that's done it and suggests the use of a towel under your hips. Apparently this could be messy.

Man, having to postpone like that is such a let-down. You seem to be taking it in stride, though. But now I'm curious. If there is a corpus luteum cyst on the ovary, than the egg extraction is delayed? I know I've had those too. Just what everyone needs -- another thing to worry about!
