20w1d Ultrasound All Good

We got our 20 week ultrasound with the perinatologist today and all is well. It was really fun to see the babies in there with more detail than ever before (duh) and moving around.

The girl is on my right and the boy on my left. I had sort of been feeling that this was the way they were situated but the doc confirmed it today. I am feeling more movement, a little each day, more on the right side. Both placentas are in an anterior position, so I guess the movements feel softer - there's quite a bit of cushioning in-between the babies and my abdominal wall (er, what's left of it ;) Hubs won't be able to feel them move from the outside probably for another month or so.

I was SO happy to hear that my cervix is still very long ("5 or 6 centimeters" the doc said) and completely closed. I hope it remains this way until appropriate time. Of course I am concerned about any contractions, and later, premature labor, as any person preg with twins would be. I don't think I have had any contractions yet, but to tell the truth, I am not entirely sure I understand what they feel like. Please describe??

This morning before I woke up I had an orgasm in my sleep. A strong one. And then I woke up right after. About 5 minutes after, I had some cramping for about 2 or 3 minutes, a little scary. Was that contractions? I am going to ask the OB about this on Monday. Anyone else ever experience this? Should I not have orgasms? (Not that one can help this during sleep!)

Will report back after the OB appointment on Monday. Looking forward to having ME checked out - blood pressure, blood glucose, etc. Sometimes I have some pressure in my head that lasts for hours and of course, I've mentioned the blood sugar issues. So, it'll be nice to get checked. Oh yeah, today I stepped on the scale in the peri's office and I was about 142 - ! I'm only 5'3", so this is quite interesting for me. I started at about 116, so doing fine in the weight-gain department so far I do say. Have never weighed over 135-ish, so it's pretty weird. But good. I am far more worried these days about the babies being big enough rather than myself getting temporarily whale-ish.

In the beginning, they feel like a tightening in your uterus. My doctor tells me anything under four an hour is ok, but to call if it's anything other. I started getting braxton-hicks in my 24th week. (and I thought it might be preterm labor, because it happened more often than I really liked them to) They're annoying more than anything, but with twins, I'm sure they're going to put you on high alert if you start to get them with any sort of frequency.

But yeah, they don't really hurt, your abdodmen just gets rock hard. It's probably the only time in my life I can say with certainty that I've got rock hard abs.

I agree that the contractions feel like your stomach is really hard or tight. I never felt pain with mine until just a few weeks before delivery. I liken it to the difference between loosely holding your hand in a fist and balling it up in a tight fist as hard as you can - the muscles are definitely working harder, but there is no pain.

Oh, and it is fine to have orgasms as long as there aren't any preterm labor issues (which it sounds like there aren't right now). But they can stimulate contractions for a little while, so that might be what you felt afterwards!

I'm so glad everything is going well. Keeping all three of you in my prayers!

I'm so glad to hear the babies are doing well.
As for contractions - when I first noticed them (around 22 weeks), my uterus felt tight from the outside and it suddenly felt like I had to pee which would pass when the contraction was over. Apparently, when contracting the uterus places pressure on the bladder.
You're doing great with the weight gain. I am just a bit shorter than you and started out at about 120lbs. The last time I was weighed I was 170lbs. It felt weird to watch the scale go that high but thankfully I didn't have any body issues that caused me to have a weight freak out.

Glad you're well, and you're more than halfway there. Praise your cervix every day, it's doing great. My contractions started at 16 weeks (yikes!) and weren't painful until much later in pregnancy. Similar to what others have described -- a tightening, often only in one part of my uterus, and they almost felt like one of the babies was balling up and sticking out their butt (even though that's not the case). I had the bladder sensation, too. When I was bigger they hurt more. Earlier on sometimes I wasn't sure unless I put a hand on my stomach and then I could feel it tighten and then eventually relax. hope you continue to feel good.

I was not allowed to have orgasms when I was pregnant since I had placenta previa, but if your doctor hasn't said that you can't have sex or orgasms then it shouldn’t be an issue. However, before I was told not to have orgasms I also had those uterine contractions, but they are completely normal. But I would ask your doctor if you are concerned.

Oh, and wow, you are still teeny tiny!

Ultrasound days are the best, especially when you have two little ones to see. I've started to get the Braxton Hicks contractions too. For me they feel like menstrual cramps that tighten up my belly. I can tell you in a few months what real contractions feel like.

Why does everybody but me get the orgasm dreams? I have dreams but they are usually annoying and leave me feeling crappy. I'll trade ya?

you may be surprised how soon your husband can feel the baby move. my husband felt it around week 22. he was so excited! i hope you get that chance soon. as for b/h contractions, everyone describes like i would, tightening and hardness, but not painful, just interesting. mine started around week 21.

I am embarrassed to say I get orgasms from dreams too. It is difficult enough to get it through real sex, but I get them so easily through dreams. I too cramp a little afterwards but I was told it does not harm the pregnancy or baby. So its all good - enjoy them whilst you still get them! (I tragically lost mine since third trimester kicked in.. :( but had them throughout the second).

Like...two or three times weekly. :):):)

The contractions feel like your belly is being squeezed--tighter and tighter. It lasts for a minute or less. And your belly feels hard. I had contractions for weeks and weeks before I actually delivered. I didn't feel any difference between the b/h contractions and the "real" contractions, but that's just me. I hope all is still well. And that you'll be getting a double cuddle soon--okay, not too soon :-)
