How Long Did it Take You?

Hey gals, I have a question...

How long did it take you to get your period the cycle AFTER IVF? That is to say, assuming you did not get pregnant. I am talking not about the period that you get to END the IVF cycle, but the one following.

I have had a very strange cycle. I think it's anovulatory (no ovulation) because I've had no signs of ovulation, and I usualy have plenty of signs in mid-cycle (abundant CM, temp rise, LH surge, you know the drill). And I don't feel the usual signs of impending period. BBs have remained small like at beginning of cycle, no cramps, no bloat. I am now CD30 (2 days late) and seem to be stuck in limbo. And no, I am not pregnant.

Thoughts? Experiences?

UPDATE:
(warning, gonna speak frankly here...) Ok, so now it's CD32 and I have just experienced 2 days of MAJOR abundant CM. I'm talking globs. Had a little bit of bleeding this morning but not enough to appear on a pad, and now it's totally stopped. I tested LH yesterday (dark but not positive) and today (lighter), so if there was a surge I might have missed it. Yesterday saliva was very clearly ferning (meaning high estrogen), not ferning today. Call me crazy, but did I just ovulate on CD32? Have not been temping, so no info there.

I have read that a little bleeding during ovulation is not abnormal after long follicular phases. Again - anyone? Most certainly this is the first time this has ever happened to me.

(note to Bea, who commented earlier: if I'm right and this luteal phase is normal, I will also have a 46 day cycle on this first "unmanipulated" cycle after IVF! Or maybe my period is on its way and will be here in a day or two. We'll see.)

Forty-six days.

If you feel frustrated, some hormone testing may give you more info (ie a blood test). Otherwise - more waiting.

I am like clock work even after failed cycles. I am very seldom 'off schedule' so I can't help you there.

Hope your body gets moving soon.

Good luck

My cycles have been pretty regular since the IVF. It does seem to be the standard for AF to be late anytime you actually want it. That doesn't explain the lack of ovulation signs though. I hope this doesn't set back your FET too much.

I got my period a couple of weeks after my failed IFV cycle. If you don't get it soon, your doctor can give you something to get things moving (Provera, I think).

My cycle started right on time after my failed IVF, too.

I went right back on the pill each time becasue I didn't trust AF to cooperate. So I can't say what would have happened naturally. I assumed it was pretty common for AF to go off track afterwards.

They can give you provera or just start BCP's if you're using those for supression.

Sorry for the frustration. Damn AF! It seems I'm always reading that she's early when people want her to stay away and late when she's needed.

I just looked back on my charts (yeah, I still sort of do that, only to track how many days each cycle is, though-I don't temp..what's the point, right?) and I seem to be in the same boat-I get my period directly after the failed cycle, but the first "natural" cycle after that is a little longer than normal (I did Provera the first time, but waited it out for the other two). I finally got mine today after 35 days, which is totally not normal with me (my average is 29-30 days a cycle). I think, at least for me, it's like my body is sluggish after I do a fresh cycle.

If you're unsure, you could always go in for a bloodletting to see where you're at-it's so frustrating to have to wait.....waiting is not one of my strenghts, I guess.....

Hope the tide flows your way soon!

I am sorry that AF isn't cooperating. I didn't ovulate after my last cycle. In fact, they had to induce my period with provera so that I could start this cycle. I hope that yours shows up soon so that you can move on. Hugs.

Bummer about the AF not appearing yet. I can only offer a supportive ear. My body is in a perpetually confused state these days. It can be so dang frustrating. I hope it comes along soon!

I got my period right on time, it varies very little, so I'm afraid I'm no help here. It does sound as if you might have just ovulated, but it's hard to be sure. Sounds like you're just going to have to wait and see!

I've never gone through IVF but I sure have had late ovulation before. Around Days 30-35 if my memory serves me.

Also, it's completely normal to have just a touch of spotting around ovulation. Happens like clockwork for some women.

Don't you just hate the guessing game?

um... maybe I'm totally nuts for suggesting it... but... have you peed on the OTHER sort of stick??

I mean... it's possible.

My period normally arrives before my blood test is due so can't help you, but I do have friends that can go to 40 days before it arrives.

In reference to your update, I usually notice CM shortly before my period, which is frustrating as I never have any during ovulation. But it sounds like you may have ovulated really late. It's so frustrating not knowing, isn't it?

the same question brought me to this blog. After my FET, my period came within a week as expected. However, my second period now is about 3 weeks (yes, weeks) late. I did the home test and it was negative. I called my doc and he said it was normal to miss or skip a period. I just want to know what happened. So I may need to get a blood test done soon. I know this doesn't help, but I just want to let you know that it may be awhile for the second period to show up. I still have no sign for the period.

same question for me. i had my first ivf cycle which was unsuccessful and am waiting for FET. No such luck as AF is not co-operating and i am on day 60!! I usually have a 35 day cycle but this is a bit ridiculous! Have had blood tests and are both baseline so am anovulatory. Prob will have to kick start my cycle for transfer. It's great to get some information from others about this when you are feeling unsure, confused and anxious for a baby. Thanks

I'm waiting for my period to come after a failed IVF cycle. I almost started to believe that the pregnancy test was wrong. I guess I'm still feeling the effects of the prometrium. It sounds like it will take some time before I get my period and my cycle becomes normal again. I guess that's what happens when we screw with our hormones!

This was so helpful. I have taken 5 hpt. I am 11 days late after a failed ivf. I also went to the Dr. to get a blood test failed. I was so hopeful that maybe i would be pregant. i am now looking into adoption. this was our 3rd try at ivf. Which one of the ivf turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy. On our own our first pregnancy was an ectopic that lead to surgery. They were able to save my tubes. Than after that i had a miscarriage. I feel out of hopeless.

I have just had another failed IVF after doing it 3 times. My period is over 2 weeks late. I did a pregnancy test and it is no pregnant although you which it was.

One pregnancy which was developing nicely ended in disaster I had an absess on my ovary when I was 4 months pregnant. I had to do an operation and it was either me or the baby and they got rid of the latter. I havent got much hope now but I will be going one more time and then that's it.

All the best to you ladies I really know how it feels and dont give up.

I am now going on day 35! I took a preg. test and it started + then went to -... I am to vervous to take another! I can't take seeing another - sign! So my husband I decided to wait another week and then I will take another test. I do NOT think I am prego! Although it would be wonderful... I think my hormones are all out of whack... I have yet to call the doctor. After years and years of trying and several IVF treatments it was kinda nice not talking to a doctor for awhile... ugh!

I'm new to all this myself, as was wondering about how long it takes for my period to come back. :o( We had another failed attempt at IVF, period arrived 26 of June which was my regular time, but nothing since then. Is this normal?? Should I go back to the doc?

I had a transfer in May last year which failed. Since then I have only had 3 periods and I never know when I am going to get them, I am 37 and starting to get desperate. I never thought I would want to get my period so much!!!!! My doctor is playing the waiting game with me which is killing me I guess it's time for me to put my foot down and find something that will bring it on. Wishing all my love and best wishes to you all who are also trying. xoxoxo
